A situation in which a gene has more than one phenotypic effect. For example, the Curly gene in Drosophila shapes the wing in a peculiar way. This effect is dominant since heterozygotes for the gene display the curly phenotype. However, the Curly gene is also a recessive lethal so flies  homozygous with genotypes Cu Cu die.
